Haven builds Catalan Entente
Whitehaven RLFC recently had the pleasure of hosting Christophe Jouffret to the Club ,the chief executive of Super League Catalans Dragon and father of Havens recent French signing Louis Jouffret .
He received a very warm welcome and thought the people and the town were both amazing.
As a result Whitehaven are now looking to build and develope links with Christophe and the Catalan Dragons: with Louis Jouffret and Jordan Sigismeau making a big impact at the club ,these links could potentially see future player recruitment from the Catalans Feeder club UTC X111 .
There have even been talks of a possible 'mini' tour to the South of France that would involve playing possibly three French clubs and a pre-season Training camp .
Of course the timing of such a tour would be a little difficult but it would a tremendous boost to the club and a great opportunity for the fans to visit France on a great trip and watch rugby league.
Amanda Hewer General Manager.
Aiye on Team Sheet for 2016
Whitehaven RLFC have received a massive boost confirming that PNG International
Dion Aiye has signed a new contract for 2016 , Subject to Visa requirements
. Half back Aiye joined the club in the close season and has played in
16 games scoring 3 trys and has established himself as a big favoutite
of the Haven Fans . Football director James Robinson commented " We are
working really hard to hit the ground running next season . Dion is a
quality assett to the club and has setlled really wll into the local community
, and its great to have him , along with others already in place for 2016.

Whitehaven Push High Flying Sheffield Eagles
Third-placed Sheffield tightened their grip on a crucial top-four spot
with a hard-fought 26-16 victory over spirited Whitehaven in the Kingstone
Press Championship.
Whitehaven, 11th in the table, trailed 16-4 at the break at Castle Park
but fought back to level with two Scott McAvoy tries before touchdowns
from Scott Turner and Misi Taulapapa - his second of the match - settled
Eagles nerves.
Quentin Laulu-Togagae and three-goal Kyle Briggs also crossed for the
South Yorkshire side while Whitehaven's other try came from Craig Calvert.

Bitter Disappointment in Second Half
It's probably too early to say this game was a relegation decider but Haven
must be bitterly disppointed at losing this one as the Hawks fought back
from a half time defecit to take the two valuable league points. Hunslet
Hawks battle back from 12-10 down at half-time to beat Whitehaven 26-18
in their Kingstone Press Championship clash. Their five tries came from
Jack Lee, James Duckworth, Mufaro Mvududu, Jimmy Watson and George Flanagan.
Richard Lepori, Rhodri Lloyd and Tyla Hepi claimed Whitehaven's tries and
John Paul Brocklebank was accurate with the boot but they remain one place
off the bottom.

More Bad News?
After a poor pre season, losing two games and cancelling a third game at
Newcastle ,Whitehavens plans for the 2015 were thrown into further turmoil
with the apparent disappearance of Head Coach Steve Deakin from the club
.
It is understood that Steve Deakin left the club on Friday afternoon
and drove back to his home in Oldham.
As such Deakin did not take the normal Friday night Training Session
at the Recreation Ground last night and that the Saturday Morning Training
Session was cancelled today for the first time since pre season got underway
in November. In his absence Assistant Coaches Brett Seymour and James
Coyle took control of the session .Seymour who was at the Egremont v Wath Brow cup game today , refused
to comment when asked if Steve Deakin had left the club .
No official comment from the club has been made .
Easy Win for Town
Workington regained the Ike Southward Trophy (25/1/15)with an easy win
over Whitehaven, scoring four tries to nil.For the second week running
Haven left their loyal fans hugely disappointed with a lack lustre display
The Town team did not feature their recent Australian signing Fifita and
Horton , but Haven included props Jaso Hand and Ben Davies who did not
feature in last week's game at Barrow. Town kicked of with the wind at
their back , Haven started brightly and more than matched the Town for
the first quarter without ever really looking like scoring , however it
was Town who got on the scoreboard first with a try by Stack converted
by Forber to take a 6 nil Lead . After that Town grew in confidence and
dominated proceedings forber added another penalty to give Town an 8 nil
lead at the half . The second half however was a major disappointment
as Haven fell away badly . They started to drop off too many tackles which
Town took full advantage of to score through Callum Phillips , Ritson
and Mossop all converted to see Town win by a comfortable margin. In possesion
Haven for all their effort , rarely looked like scoring .
Following on from last weeks defeat at Horror Show at Barrow
, Haven once again were found lacking in all departments . In two games
they have conceded 68 points and have scored only one try . Not the start
that was anticipated , and Coach Steve Deakin and the player must now
find a massive improvement in their performance for next weeknds trip
to take on a resurgent Newcastle Thunder otherwise their pre-season record
will show played 3 lost 3 ! Haven: Lepori, Wilde, Bannister, Holliday,
Burns; Seymour, Aiye, Robinson, Newton, Hand, Allen, McAvoy, Brocklebank
Subs: Hepi, T Coyle, Davies, Horner
Investment in Recreation Ground Approved
Gary Eilbeck Director for Ground Improvements at Whitehaven RLFC said
we are delighted to announce that work can commence on improvement's to
the Recreation Ground after securing funding from Energy Coast West Cumbria
Ltd (trading as Britain’s Energy Coast) who agreed several years ago to
hold funds approved by BNFL for much needed improvements to the Whitehaven
Rugby League stadium. This was before the Pow Beck initiative. The unspent
funds have remained available for the club for when it was able to demonstrate
a viable investment proposal to ensure the stadium retains its ability
to host Championship level games. WRLFC have now satisfied Sellafield
Ltd and the BEC board that the funds should be released for such a proposal.
BEC officials are working with the club on a programme of investments
over the coming months which will satisfy the Rugby Football League and
will guarantee the town can host Championship rugby next season and beyond..
This move honours an early agreement and is not a part of BEC’s forward
plan for investments into the local economy. Work has commenced on refurbishing
the Kells end and also creating a new home changing room under the Grandstand
and to refurbish the current changing rooms into one for away teams use
. Further work will be undertaken during 2015 to meet the RFL requirements
on number of seats required in the Championship and also upgrading the
floodlights. The club had agreed to play our Annual friendly against Gateshead
at home on the 1st February 2015 however due to the renovations this game
will be played at Kingston Park home of Newcastle Falcons Rugby Union
on Saturday the 31st January 2015 with a 3pm kick off.
Jordan Hand agrees season-long loan with Whitehaven
St Helens prop Hand is returning to The Recre on a season-long loan after
spending the 2014 season as a dual-registration player. The 21-year-old
made 20 appearances for Whitehaven last season, scoring two tries. Whitehaven
boss Steve Deakin has labelled the return of loan star Jordan Hand as
a ‘massive endorsement’ for the work the club is doing. “He has enough
talent to be offered a new deal by St Helens and the fact that they are
also prepared to loan him out to us endorses their faith in what we are
doing up here,I’m absolutely delighted to get a prominent, up-and-coming
prop as part of our side" Deakin said. Ready for the Off
Workington Town and Whitehaven will kick-start the inaugural Summer Bash
for the Kingston Press Championship t Blackpool. Tickets for the Blackpool
week-end, held over the spring Bank Holiday in May, have now gone on sale.
Town's clash with neighbours Whitehaven is one of four matches on Saturday,
May 23, including the first ever final of the League One Cup, while there
will be three more Championship games on the following day. More
information...
New Coach
Whitehaven have appointed former Catalan Dragons reserve boss Steve Deakin
as head coach on a two-year deal.
More
Whitehaven stay up
Whitehaven started this game knowing that a win was a must, and that anything
less would mean relegation. In the end they romped to an emphatic win
over the Lions , but even then they had to rely on Keighley's by Featherstone
to secure their Kingstone Press Championship status with a 44-18 win
at Swinton. Scott McAvoy, Carl Foster, Jordan Burns, Jesse Joe Parker,
Cain Southernwood, Lee Mitchell and James Newton scored tries for the
Cumbrians and Australian half-back Brett Seymour kicked eight goals.
Tries from Martin Ainscough, Kevin Penny and Richie Hawkyard could not prevent Swinton ending the season with a 10th straight defeat. So it will be Championship rugby next season for the Haven and a fresh set of challenges, but for the moment
Haven can savour this final day win in front of over 250 ecstatic travelling fans.

Whitehaven took the honours in an entertaining Kingstone Press Championship
clash as they edged out Dewsbury Rams 40-34.(13/7/2014)
Haven played well in patches but then allowed an enthusiastic Rams team
back into the game several times in the 80 minutes. In the end they just
about deserved the win with Craig Calvert scoring a well taken hat-trick,
while Tom Carr and Shaun Ainscough scored two tries each for Whitehaven,
Anthony Thackeray, Shane Grady, Karl Pryce, Sam Wood, Scott Hale, and
Tommy Gallagher all crossed for Dewsbury.
Haven are now only two points behind Dewsbury in seventh place , as a
log jam of 5 teams in contetion for the last 4 promotion slots .The pressure
in now on and every game assumes a must win status
