France's Finest fail to Impress
Pia Xiii The French Donkeys
left empty handed after a walk-over by a lively Haven side.The
evening threatened to degenerate to a French Farce when several
of the Recre floodlights suffered a black-out. The game was allowed
to continue with Haven clocking up 72-0 scoreline as the game
progressed.
Steady progress in the Haven squad development with good play
from (among others) Maden, Seeds, Hill, Sice, Calvert, Joe and
Rob Jackson. Rudd kicked numerous conversions, several from out
on the wings. |

The Pia squad have a donkey as their mascot because of the
beast's obstinacy and a courage ! ( obstination et courage )
There was a minute's silence in honour of Whitehaven born
and bred Jeff Bawden, who died aged 82.
Bawden started his Rugby League career with Whitehaven amateur
club, Hensingham, and after making his debut for Huddersfield
in the Yorkshire |Cup against |Hull at Fartown on October 23,
l943, gained l4 Cumberland caps. |
