In May 2013: Staff, trustees and volunteers were celebrated the news that
the Lottery grant-making body for Heritage schemes had decided to back
Haig, in Whitehaven, with a £1.7million award. With agreement from
several other funders already won, work can now get started on building
a modern visitor centre within the grounds and on a major renovation of
the old colliery buildings. Together this will create a much improved
museum able to display a huge range of industrial memorabilia and documentation
and attract thousands of visitors.
